Chocolate Strawberry Cake

The Chocolate Strawberry Heart Cake is a delicious, romantic dessert designed for special occasions like Valentine's Day. It combines rich chocolate cake with the sweetness of strawberries, making it a perfect treat for anyone who loves the classic pairing of chocolate and fruit.

Ingredients:

  • For the cake:

    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
    • 1 tsp baking powder
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • ½ tsp salt
    • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 cup whole milk
    • ½ cup vegetable oil
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1 cup hot water
    • 1 cup fresh strawberries, mashed
  • For the frosting:

    • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 4 cups powdered sugar
    • ¼ cup heavy cream
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • ¼ cup pureed strawberries (for flavor and color)
  • For decoration:

    • Fresh strawberries, sliced
    • Heart-shaped sprinkles or edible glitter (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.

  2. Prepare the cake batter:

    • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
    • In another bowl, mix the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.
    • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix well until combined.
    • Stir in the hot water and mashed strawberries until the batter is smooth (it will be slightly runny).
  3. Bake the cake: Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

  4. Prepare the frosting:

    • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until smooth and creamy.
    • Gradually add the powdered sugar, ½ cup at a time, and beat until fluffy.
    • Add the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and pureed strawberries. Continue to beat until the frosting is smooth and creamy.
  5. Assemble the cake: Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on your serving plate. Spread a generous amount of strawberry frosting over it. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.

  6. Decorate: Top with fresh strawberry slices, heart-shaped sprinkles, or edible glitter to give it that special Valentine's Day touch.

Enjoy your homemade Chocolate Strawberry Heart Cake—a sweet treat for your loved ones!
