Boiled Vegetables

Boiled vegetables Recipe are simply vegetables that have been cooked in boiling water until they reach a desired level of tenderness. The process typically involves washing and sometimes peeling or chopping the vegetables, then submerging them in a pot of boiling  water for a specific amount of time, depending on the type and size of the vegetable. Common examples include boiled carrots, potatoes, broccoli, or green beans.

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 cups of your choice of vegetables (e.g., carrots, broccoli, potatoes, peas, etc.)

  • Water (enough to cover the vegetables)

  • Salt (optional, to taste)

  • Pepper (optional, to taste)

  • Butter or olive oil (optional, for flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Vegetables:
    • Wash the vegetables thoroughly under running water to remove dirt.

    • Peel if necessary (e.g., for potatoes or carrots), and chop into bite-sized pieces for even cooking.

  2. Boil the Water:
    • Fill a medium-sized pot with enough water to fully submerge the vegetables.

    • Add a pinch of salt to the water (optional) and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat.

  3. Cook the Vegetables:
    • Carefully add the vegetables to the boiling water.

    • Reduce heat by medium and let them simmer. Cooking times vary:
      • Carrots: 10-15 minutes

      • Broccoli: 5-7 minutes

      • Potatoes: 15-20 minutes

      • Green beans: 5-10 minutes

  4. Drain and Season:
    • Once cooked, drain the vegetables using a colander.

    • Return to the pot or serving dish. Add a small amount of butter or olive oil, salt, and pepper to taste (optional).

  5. Serve:
    • Serve warm as a side dish or mix into other recipes as desired.

Tips:

  • For extra flavor, you can add herbs like parsley or dill after draining.

  • Don’t overcook to retain nutrients and texture.
